Thanks for joining Caffeine: the guild!
We have many goals. Raiding, role playing, helping new players and most importantly:
FUNEveryone in Caffeine is sexy. Play sexy, which means play so that everyone gives you the respect you deserve.Raids: you can read about our raiding in other stickies.
Role playing: although we are evolving, Caffeine will always have some role playing at it's core. What it means to the average member will be covered in the rules section.
Helping new players: Even though we help newbies becoming good players, Caffeine is not about hand-outs and begging. A good player is one who can figure out what he can handle and what should wait on. A good player learns how to work well with other people in group settings. The endgame content of WoW is full of instances and raids, and we want to groom people who can PuG into a party or raid and still be able to harmonize and help the instance be a success.
How to make it in Caffeine (the Rules)
1. Please do not bad-mouth other guilds on the chat channels, the guild channel, or on open speaking channels. What you whisper in private is your own business, but your public speech should reflect well and show that you know how to be an honorable person. Leave virtue for the Alliance, but always show some honor.
2. If you are stuck on something we don't mind if you ask for help. If you have an almost complete instance group but can't find a complete one, we don't mind helping out and "touring" you through the instance. If you are level 20 and you want us to run you solo through Razorfen Kraul, forget it. We want to help you out but we are not about handouts. Thaag often goes on farming runs and might find something of interest to a Caffeine member, but never, ever demand/beg another to find you a particular item of gear, perform a professional service, or give you money. If you need an item you can ask if anyone has it or knows where to find it. If you need money, you can say "I'm having trouble raising the cash for [thus-and-such, training or mount or sweet gear]" and chances are good one of us will help you out in some way, be it raw materials you can use in your own profession or advice on how to farm for cash or maybe finding a recipe which will help you out.
Why do I reject handouts when Caffeine is a helping guild? This is because we are in the business of grooming GOOD and GREAT players. Becoming just a GOOD player means you have to have a high learning curve. You don't learn a thing if everything is handed to you. You do learn when you follow advice or experiment or explore. You do learn when you are doing the dull and boring grinding (take advantage of the repetitive mobs to play with your fighting techniques). You appreciate it when you earn gold coin by the time you are 10th level. You will be invited to more instance groups later on if you learn how you fit in with a group by partying up for instances.
3. I expect you to try to play at least once every 2 weeks, and I encourage you to play at least 3 times a week if you don't want to fall behind your peers. I keep track of how often people are on. I also know which toons are alts of others within Caffeine. If you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, please let an officer (Sexy Latte, Sexy Breve, or Sexy Java Mama) know. If an officer is not online, then send one of them an email through the game. Usually Thaag, Deak, and/or Halyra are on, one or the other, every day. One of us will then put an officer's note in your guild profile so that we know not to demote or kick you out. If you do not give notice and you do not play for a month, you will be made Decaf and that is the only unsexy rank. If you are gone from the game for more than 2 months without giving us notice, you will no longer be part of Caffeine.
4. If you have an alt in Caffeine, state in your player notes "alt of:" This is to eliminate confusion amongst officers who don't know who is an alt of whom. If you don't play your alt for a while, you may find your alt booted. We don't want this to happen.
5. The Talking Rule: Since we are also light-RP I expect you to speak on the public speak channel (that's /s) in character. I also expect /yell and /emote to be in character. If you want the whole zone to hear what you have to say that isn't in character, that's what the General channel is for. Guild chat does not need to be in character, and /whisper is your own business. You should also watch your language in guild chat. This also means the general/trade/defense channels. You're representing the guild on those channels, and yes people will tell me when others act badly or when they act well. Thaag is fairly well-known in this realm and people know that she expects her Caffeine guildren to behave. If I or an officer sees that ourselves, you will get a warning the first offense, removal if the behavior continues even once more.
We have a "mature discussion" channel available if you want to use obscene language and talk about "shady" things. To join it, type "/join coffeeandcigarettes" in the chat window.
6. If you have a problem with another guild, tell an officer. It's our job to deal with other guilds. Please do not approach the problem yourself. If you can't get hold of an officer, type /who and the name of the guild you are looking for and ask a 70 level in that list to get you in touch with an officer of that guild. Chances are, the 70s either ARE officers in their guild or are buddies with one. Please be respectful when speaking to the officers of other guilds.
7. NO BOTTING. This means no farming botting, no battleground botting, no grinding botting. If you don't know what botting is, you're not doing it so you're okay. (I do however encourage that people take advantage especially of farming botters and exploit them into the poor house. It serves them right.) If you feel you need to use a bot for farming, grinding, or honor leeching, you need to do so without the Caffeine guild tag.
Loot rules
I don't like having to post loot rules because I like to think we all have a reasonable grasp on general loot rules. But loot problems have been going on in other guilds, so I'm going to put them down in stone here so that there's no misunderstanding.
I like to go by the accepted loot rules of the server. If the item is BoE, everyone is free to "greed". If the BoE item is something which is an immediate upgrade from equipment you currently are using *and* you can equip it right away, please ASK the group you are with if you can make a "need" roll and explain why.
Now the exception to this is recipes. If a recipe drops and you are fairly close to the skill (say within 10 points) required but cannot learn it on the spot yet, ASK your group if you can "need", explain that you are close to being able to learn. Chances are, they will be more than willing to let you have it without any argument.
You do not ever roll "need" on a BoE that you plan on giving an alt. NOT EVAR. Now if you communicate with your group before the dungeon starts that you are looking for a particular BoE for an alt, they are very likely to say, "Sure you can have it." Most people are reasonable.
Rolling "need" because you are in need of cash and you plan on selling the item is not acceptable. If you are in that much need of cash, and you can't get a loan or no one in the guild is available to help you farm some cash, then let your dungeon party know what your situation is before the dungeon starts. It might be that they can help you out. Like I said, most people are reasonable. If you run into asshats, don't take it personally. Just cross them off your X-mas list.
The general rule for BoP items is that, unless anyone in the group can use the item now or in the very near future (let's say it's Herod's helm, which is Mail, and the hunter is 39 about to ding 40), everyone passes on the roll. NO GREED, NO NEED. If there is an enchanter amongst you who is skilled enough to disenchant the item, then everyone can roll for the shard (or whatever comes out of it). If there is no one who can disenchant, then you can roll to vend if you want. It will be a basic /roll which automatically selects a random number from 1-100, high roll wins.
These rules only apply if you are using the default group loot scenario. If you have the loot on Free For All, there should be no arguing who gets what loot, period. In raids, usually the loot system is Master Loot so that's also not an issue.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask an officier!
